Coliseum of Comics, which currently has ten retail stores in Florida, is expanding into Texas with the acquisition of Generation X Comics and Games, which serves the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Generation X owner Wayne McNeil announced on Facebook that he and his wife Tabitha are retiring after 31 years in the business and that Coliseum will take over on January 1, 2026.
Former Lone Star Comics and Diamond Comic Distributors executive Chris Powell, who joined Coliseum in November (see “Chris Powell Returns to Retail“), will oversee the new store. In its acquisition announcement, Coliseum of Comics stated that operations will continue uninterrupted at the Generation X location, including customer subscriptions. The new owner also plans to bring in a broader inventory of comics, games, and other pop-culture items, as well as more in-store events and a loyalty program.
“Generation X Comics & Games has deep roots in the DFW area, and we’re honored to carry that legacy forward,” said Coliseum of Comics Founder Phil Boyle in a statement accompanying the acquisition announcement. “Texas has an incredible and passionate fan community.”
“I’ve long admired Generation X for its dedication to fans and community,” Powell added. “Joining Coliseum of Comics gives us the opportunity to build on that legacy while introducing new experiences and products that fans in the DFW area have been asking for.”
