Papercutz, in partnership with Tatsunoko Production, will publish a middle-grade Speed Racer graphic novel. Pitched at ages 7-12, Speed Racer Adventures, vol. 1 will pit the title character and his Mach Five against a car with artificial intelligence, built by the richest man in the world. Tiny Titans co-creator Franco Aureliani and Star Wars Adventures artist Derek Charm are the creative team for the book, which will be released on April 28, 2026, in two formats, a hardcover with an MSRP of $17.99 and a paperback with an MSRP of $12.99.
“I loved watching the Speed Racer cartoon as a kid,” Aureliani said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “It was my first real introduction to anime. It was a good show that had really engaging characters, was filled with fast-paced action, and high-stakes racing! And a really cool theme song! I tried to capture all of that with this new book for all ages to enjoy—well, except for the theme song… I’m still trying to figure out how to get that in graphic novel form.”
Papercutz parent Mad Cave signed a deal with Tatsunoko Production in 2024 to produce new Speed Racer comics (see “‘Speed Racer’ Takes a Walk on the Noir Side”).
