'Light Speed Arena' Rockets to NA Trade

Pegasus Spiele is offering Light Speed Arena, an app-supported real-time space battle card game, to the North American trade.

Twenty years after the original Tom Jolly and James Ernest design, the real-time space battle card game Light Speed has been updated and enhanced with a supporting digital app and additional design by Leonardo Alese and Emanuele Santellani of Tablescope.

Each round of play lasts only ten seconds, with players acting simultaneously to place their spaceship tiles on the table.  The tiles show the ships as well as their weapons and shields, and the location and orientation of each tile ultimately determines how effectively they are able to attack each other.  Once the round ends, the players activate the free digital app and scan the battlefield.  The app automatically calculates the positions and angles of attack, then presents the results complete with animations and sound effects. Players are then awarded points based on how well their fleet has performed, with the one who has the most points declared the winner.

Light Speed Arena is intended for one to four players, ages 14 and up, and plays in less than ten minutes. MSRP is $24.99.

Tablescope raised €53,879 (about $58,000) from 1,274 backers in a Kickstarter campaign last May to fund the development of the game.

Pegasus is also releasing the fantasy-themed app-based game Boss Fighters QR (see “App-Supported Family Game by Spiel des Jahres Designers”).  A smaller travel-sized edition of the Spiel des Jahres winner Dorfromantik is also on offer (see “Compact Version of ‘Dorfromantik’ to Trade”).
