Wizards of the Coast has expanded the number of Magic: The Gathering collector supply licensees, as the number of multi-license Universes Beyond accessories proliferates. The number of multi-license Magic accessories will continue to increase through 2026 as WotC pushes the number of Universes Beyond products to new highs (see “Lineup“).
Production of officially-licensed Magic collector supplies and accessories was limited to only a few companies in the 90s and 00s. Sports card collector supplies were used as TCG supplies in the early days of the game’s existence; few actual Magic-licensed accessories were produced. Licensed accessories that were produced during this era included Reaper’s The Duelist Abacus and Scrye Life Counter Miniatures as well as Khlasa Brain Games’ Spellground playmats. When Hasbro bought WotC in 1999, the production of some accessories was taken in-house.
Eventually, Ultra PRO became one of the first companies to acquire a Magic: The Gathering license from WotC under Hasbro. They obtained the license in 2006 in order to create official tournament sleeves (see ‘‘Magic’ License‘), and the company continues to produce Magic collector supplies into 2025. Ultra PRO will release their next wave of Magic: The Gathering accessories, a Final Fantasy line, in Q4 2025 (see “Accessory Line“).
The number of Magic collector supplies licensees didn’t expand much beyond Ultra PRO for a long time. WotC had granted a few accessories licenses, one to WizKids for Magic miniatures, action figures, and prop replicas (see “Wizards of the Coast Licenses“), and one to Gatherer’s Tavern for statues and jewelry (see “Statues“). Legion Games managed to get a Magic license to produce collector supplies in 2017, only to be absorbed by Ultra PRO in 2022 (see “Legion Supplies Acquisition by Ultra PRO“).
Multi-license Magic collector supplies hit the scene when Beadle & Grimm’s obtained a Magic license in 2022 to produce Secret Lair X Beadle & Grimm’s: Here Be Dragons drop set. The multi-license drop set (D&D and Magic) featured a premium deck box, life counter, foil dragon cards, and sleeves. It had a 10,000 unit run and sold out within an hour of the DTC sale being launched (see “”Secret Lair’ Collaboration“). Beadle & Grimm’s is currently producing Magic: The Gathering premium token sets.
More Magic collector supply licenses were granted in 2024 and 2025, with heo Group, Arcane Tinmen, and Gamegenic all getting licenses. Heo Group began producing Premier Set supplies (see “‘Bloomburrow’ Accessories“); Arcane Tinmen used their license to produce Dragon Shield sleeves with iconic characters and lands on them (see “Sleeves“); and Gamegenic launched a multi-license line of Marvel’s Spider-Man collector supplies (see “”Marvel’s Spider-Man’ Accessories Line“). Even Gatherer’s Tavern, which was previously mentioned as a Magic licensee, revealed an upcoming line of collector supplies for Lorwyn Eclipsed (see “Domaru Deck Boxes’“).
Looking to the future of Magic collector supplies, the upcoming Universes Beyond sets will prompt more waves of multi-license supplies to hit the market in 2026. Heo Group seems particularly well-positioned to take advantage of this potential trend; they are already licensing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Lord of the Rings, and Star Trek for their Squaroes line (see “‘Squaroes: The Lord of the Rings’“). These licenses pair well with next year’s Magic release slate, which contains Universes Beyond sets for each of those IPs (see “Lineup“).Source: ICv2
