A1 and Deadline Merged

Two 1980s British magazines have merged and will return in combined form via Kickstarter, including a retailer tier, and with plans for trade distribution.  The first publication, A1 Deadline Special, will be an 80-page anthology featuring Tank Girl, by Alan Martin and Jaime Hewlett; Carpe Diem, by WH Rauf and Rhoald Marcellius; The Beard, by Alison Sampson; Loveboy Loves Lovegirl, by Glen Fabry and Brett Ewins; and Self-Aware in Aisle 5, by Mark Schey and Eryk Donovan, with more to be announced.  Other creators with work appearing in the issue include Shaky Kane, Rufus Dayglo, Mark A. Nelson, Steve Pugh, Ed Hillyer, and Alice Pasquini.

Featured content will include new comics, classic material restored and presented in color for the first time, and articles and features exploring the intersection of comics, music, and culture.

In addition to the retailer tier of the Kickstarter, which will offer 8 copies at 50% of retail, trade distribution to the UK will be handled by Diamond UK, and North American distribution by a distributor or distributors to be announced.

A1 and Deadline magazines, the progenitors of A1 Deadline, were both launched in the late 1980s in the UK, A1 by Dave Elliott and Garry Leach, and Deadline by Brett Ewins and Steve Dillon.  A1 featured creator-owned comic content by Moebius, Alan Moore, Eddie Campbell, Bill Sienkiewicz and others; and Deadline combined comics, youth culture, and indie music with a punk-fueled aesthetic, an environment that produced Tank Girl.

The launch is being coordinated by A1 publisher Atomeka and creative studio Horrible Future, which has worked with clients including Magnetic Press and Black Box Chronicles.  The Kickstarter launches October 21.
