Every year, ICv2 does its best during Gifts Week to offer up some ideas for inexpensive gift items that retailers can stock for customers looking to fill stockings. When this article series was first published during Gifts Week in 2023, stocking stuffers were more or less $20 and under (see “$20 and Under Stocking Stuffers“). Last year, in 2024, thanks to a bit of inflation, ICv2 upped the price to $29.99 and under (see “$29.99 is the New $20“). And in 2025, tariffs tacked on a few dollars more to various games products, so the new estimated top-end of stocking stuffer pricing is roughly $34.99.
This year, stocking stuffers and cheaper gifts will likely be more important than ever, as consumers are expecting to spend less, according to a recent Pricewaterhouse Coopers survey, as reported by SeekingAlpha. While consumers are looking at spending 11% less than last year on Christmas gifts, the good news for games retailers is that the main reductions in spending are expected to be on dining out, buying clothes, and buying big-ticket items. Entertainment spending (which includes buying games) is projected to remain stable.
