Dutch publisher Keep Exploring Games has announced Ice Floes & Foes, releasing in January.
The goal of Ice Floes & Foes is to rescue seals and whales from hunters and fishermen in an ice-choked sea. Players push the ice floes around the game board in a manner similar to carnival “coin pusher” games, trying to force hunters and fishing boats off the edge of the board without pushing any animals off. The first player to shove a total of five hunters and boats off wins the game. Movement of the ice floes is complicated by their irregular shapes, causing them to shift unpredictably when pushed.
Ice Floes & Foes was designed by Dennis Merkx and Kees Meis (creators of The Great Tour) and features artwork by Thijs Rozema. It comes with 1 game board, 70 ice floes, 10 fishing boats, 10 whales, 15 wooden hunters, and 10 wooden seals. It is intended for 2 to 6 players, ages 6 and up, and plays in under half an hour.
Keep Exploring Games funded the production of the game through a Kickstarter campaign last summer that attracted €6,189 (about $7,356) from 107 backers (an average of €57.84 or $67.82 per backer). Backer fulfillment is scheduled for January, with release into the trade to follow.
