Calliope Games has announced plans to re-publish Scott Almes’ alien invasion dice game Martian Dice, with release planned for this summer.
In Martian Dice, the players become leaders of a Martian invasion of the Earth, trying to collect as many Earthlings as they can, whether they be humans, cows, or chickens. Using the games 13 dice, players try to roll their chosen abduction targets while avoiding the tanks representing Earth’s defenses or using Death Ray results to zap them. If they roll at least as many Death Rays as tanks, they successfully abduct some Earthlings. Bonus points are awarded to players who manage to abduct all three types of Earthlings on the same turn.
Originally published in 2011 by Tasty Minstrel Games, Martian Dice was one of the earliest designs by Almes, who would later author the Tiny Epic series, Beer & Bread, and Dicey Peaks. Calliope’s version will feature artwork by Jessica Eyler, who also contributed to the original game. Component details and MSRP have not been announced.
Earlier this year, Calliope and UVS Games announced a deal to produce a new edition of Calliope’s popular Roll For It! dice game (see “UVS Games Announces Partnership with Calliope Games”). Last year, Calliope refreshed an earlier game with the relaunch of Patrician: Towers of Influence (see “Calliope Games Will Release ‘Patrician: Towers of Influence’”).
