‘The Expanse,’ ‘Rick and Morty’ Kickstarters Off to Strong Starts

Two comics Kickstarters are off to strong starts, beating their pledge goals in the first few days after launch.

In what seems to be a trend, neither Kickstarter has a specific retailer tier but both publishers, BOOM! and Oni, offer to work directly with retailers who want to carry the books and other exclusives.

BOOM! Studios’ campaign for The Expanse: A Little Death, has over $500,000 in pledges from almost 5,000 backers as of this writing, reaching its $50,000 goal just 11 minutes after launch. BOOM!’s 2023 Kickstarter for The Expanse: Dragon Tooth pulled in a total of $1.4 million in pledges, making it the top-drawing comics Kickstarter of the first half of that year (see “Kickstarter Campaigns Are Up in the First Half of 2023”). First-day pledges in the new campaign came to $394,590, higher than the first-day total for the previous one, which had set a record for BOOM!

The Oni Press Kickstarter to fund the Rick and Morty 10th Anniversary Deluxe Omnibus Library has over $175,000 in pledges from 601 backers just a day after launch. The initial goal was $10,000. The Kickstarter will fund a five-volume omnibus boxed set that will collect 100 issues in chronological order.Source: ICv2
