Members of the comics community have been busy setting up fund-raisers to assist those affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.
IDW will donate the proceeds from the sale of Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 to Binc, the Book Industry Charitable Foundation. Due out in April, Godzilla vs. Los Angeles #1 is part of IDW’s Godzilla vs. America series of one-shots, each set in a different city (see “IDW Bets Big on Godzilla”).
The publisher AWA is running Artists for LA, a crowdfunding campaign on Zoop, selling original art and prints by Mike Deodato, Bill Sienkiewicz, Denys Cowan, Alison Sampson, and others. Proceeds will be donated to the California Fire Foundation Wildfire & Disaster Relief Fund and the California Community Foundation Wildfire Recovery Fund.
Collector’s Paradise, a mini-chain of three stores in Winnetka, Pasadena, and North Hollywood, has started a Customers Helping Customers fund and will match donations up to $5,000. The money will go directly to customers who live in the affected areas.
The production company Multihouse is teaming up with Bond Companies to sponsor MultiCon, a benefit event that will support the United Way of Greater Los Angeles. The one-day convention will be held on Saturday, February 22, at The Preserve LA. The schedule will include panels, screenings, workshops, gaming, live performances, and interactive experiences, and guests include Kevin Smith, David Dastmalchian, Rob Liefeld, and other celebrities.
Binc is offering assistance to book and comics retailers who suffered damage in the fires, and they recently announced that donations up to $45,000 will be matched, thanks to donations from Dog Man creator Dav Pilkey, Forefront Books, Ingram Content Group, Macmillan Publishers, and Mad Cave Studios.
