I’ve been feeling a bit of Black Series Malaise lately so thankfully Hasbro had some fun prequel alien figure reveals at MCM London and at the 1027 online event to give the line a shot in the arm.
Savage Opress is a character that honestly shouldn’t work. A knockoff Maul who is somehow also his brother, but somehow the storyline manages to be one of the more compelling in the history of the Clone Wars. The figure matches his look from the show pretty well. I’m not sure he is actually big enough to qualify as “deluxe”, but Hasbro has been playing pretty fast and loose with what qualifies there. It’s nice to get his pre-saber weapon as it’s unique looking, but I would have liked some swappable cyber-limbs and a head with some sliced horns. Savage went up today on Pulse and other fan retailers and is still available for order now at $33.99 and is due to hit in Summer.
Luminara Unduli is one of the Attack of the Clones Jedi and it’s been long enough that I’ve actually got some nostalgia for her. She’s also got some stories in The Clone Wars cartoon that feature her Padawan, Barriss Offee. I see those two as a unit, so hopefully she’s coming soon. I do like the combo of soft goods and sculpted robes here. She goes up for sale 10/30/24 at 1PM ET along with the next two at Pulse and Fan Channel retailers.
Shaak Ti is another background Attack of the Clones character that gets more background in The Clone Wars cartoon. Not just the 3D one either, she has some scenes in the 2D show too. Our first Togruta alien, she’s got a striking design that is going to pop on the shelf. She’s got a similar mix of soft goods as Luminara. I had the first figure of Shaak Ti, so I kinda wish they had included the blaster bolt deflection effect the original figure had.
Finally we have one of the main all-CGI characters from The Phantom Menace, Sebulba. The Pod Race sequence is kind of like The Phantom Menace’s version of the Cantina and features aliens galore. I don’t expect to see a lot of them in the Black Series, but I’m very happy that they got the most important one in the line. I would take some others, but at this point I think my priority for TPM aliens is probably Watto.
These four aliens have lots of color and unique builds that are going to look great in the collection. All the color is going to brighten up a display that can sometimes be dominated by troopers and people in sand-colored robes.
