Maestro Doing ‘The Smurfs Roleplaying Game’

Maestro Media is following its board game based on The Smurfs with The Smurfs Roleplaying Game, which is currently up on Kickstarter.  The game includes over 40 Smurfs that are ready to play, including many familiar characters, and also provides for character creation by players.

The core product is a The Smurfs Roleplaying Game Starter Box, which includes three paperback rule books, character sheets, Smurfs Dice, Smurfs standees, and a double-sided adventure map at a $59 pledge level.  There will also be a Core Rulebook, an 8.5″ x 11″ hardcover, available at a $49 pledge level.

The retailer tier includes 4 Starter Boxes and access to additional wholesale products at a $119 pledge level.

The designer is Kevin Borrup, who pitched the idea of an RPG and ended up getting it published at Maestro.  “I reached out to our Belgian friends at Peyo and introduced the idea of building a roleplaying game for The Smurfs,” Borrup said in a message on the Kickstarter.  “They thought this was the smurfiest idea ever and connected me with the good people at Maestro Media.  Together, we agreed to bring the game to the public.”

Maestro Media has a multi-year partnership with the holders of The Smurfs license, IMPS/LAFIG.  The first game to be released under the license is The Smurfs: Hidden Village, a board game that will street in early November (see “First Look at ‘Smurfs’“).

The release date for backers is July 2025, with the trade release presumably to follow.
