A new tabletop roleplaying game, Final Girl Rising, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, aimed at fans of slasher horror films. Using the Powered by the Apocalypse system, the game delves into the iconic “Final Girl” trope, where players embody one of six horror movie heroine archetypes, doing whatever it takes to survive the terror until the credits roll.
In Final Girl Rising, players face harrowing scenarios where death is not the end. If a character dies, they can still participate in the game through a unique mechanic called “Channel the Spirit,” allowing them to aid the surviving characters by controlling them or utilizing both characters’ abilities. As the game progresses and only one character remains, she becomes the Final Girl, gaining access to new powers that she can use to ensure her survival.
The core game is available as a 300-page hardcover book with full-color illustrations, including a GM’s guide and a sample playset called “Truth or Dare,” which follows a deadly slumber party. A supplemental book, Final Girl Rising Supercut, expands on the game with additional playsets, iconic killers, and chilling encounters. This expansion is also available as a softcover book or PDF.
The campaign runs until November 21.
