Mythmere Games Launches Kickstarter for Tome of Worldbuilding, Offering System-Neutral Sourcebooks for Fantasy RPGs

Mythmere Games has introduced the Tome of Worldbuilding, a new resource designed to help Game Masters create detailed fantasy worlds for any roleplaying system. Written by ENNIE-award-winning author Matt Finch, known for his work on the Tome of Adventure Design.

The Kickstarter campaign offers two hardcover books: the Tome of Worldbuilding and the Nomicon. Together, these books form a comprehensive toolkit for creating and naming the various elements of a fantasy world. The Tome of Worldbuilding covers essential aspects such as crafting continents, countries, wilderness areas, historical events, and political intrigue. It also includes random-generation tables to help GMs quickly generate details and inspiration for their settings.

The Nomicon focuses on naming conventions, providing tables to generate unique and fitting names for characters, locations, and more. Finch highlights the importance of names in worldbuilding, explaining how they shape players’ first impressions of the setting. The Nomicon offers naming groups inspired by real-world languages and unique fantasy elements, ensuring consistency within the cultures and regions created using the Tome of Worldbuilding.

Additionally, the books incorporate the Apophenia Engine, with micro-prompts in the margins to help stimulate creativity. These prompts are designed to work alongside the random-generation tables, further expanding the possibilities for worldbuilding and name creation.

The campaign features contributions from artists like Brett Barkley, Del Teigler, J.E. Shields, John Sumrow, Kennon James, Johnathan Bingham, and Chris Arneson.

The Kickstarter campaign, which ends on October 15, has already surpassed its initial goal, with over $97,000 pledged by 1,162 backers as of now, far exceeding its $5,000 target.
