Chaosium Announces the Return of ElfQuest: The Roleplaying Game

Chaosium Inc., in collaboration with ElfQuest creators Wendy and Richard Pini, has announced plans to reissue ElfQuest: The Roleplaying Game, originally published in 1984. The roleplaying game is based on the popular ElfQuest comic series and uses Chaosium’s Basic Roleplaying system (BRP) as its core.

The game was originally written by Steve Perrin, Sandy Petersen, and Yurek Chodak, and was developed based on the characters and setting created by Wendy and Richard Pini. The new reissue will feature the original artwork by Wendy Pini, which has been an integral part of ElfQuest for over 45 years.

Chaosium’s president, Rick Meints, who has led similar reissue projects such as Call of Cthulhu Classic and RuneQuest Classic, will oversee the ElfQuest reissue, and stated the following about the game;

“For years ElfQuest fans have asked us to bring the game back into print. Based on all we’ve learned from our previous Classic projects we are ready to add ElfQuest Classic as the next in this series. We all look forward to revisiting, rediscovering, and further exploring the Pinis’ World of Two Moons.”

The project will involve close collaboration with Wendy and Richard Pini to ensure it remains faithful to the original game and its presentation. Co-creator Richard Pini noted;

“ElfQuest has from its inception been about the value and strength of family and tribe. We can’t think of a better way to encourage community than through people coming together to enjoy the world-building challenges that role-playing offers.”

To coincide with the 40th anniversary of the original game, Chaosium will launch a Kickstarter campaign in October 2024. The campaign aims to bring back the vintage game in its original box edition format, including all supplements from the 1984 publications.
