A Texas federal court has issued a subpoena to content delivery network company Cloudflare for identifying information of websites displaying copyrighted material from Webtoon Entertainment. Nearly 200 examples of infringement were cited in the request for subpoena from Webtoon and Remove Your Media LLC, with the list of domains including many sites specializing in pirated manga, manhwa, and comics content. The identifying information will allow Webtoon to target the pirate sites, and seek to have them taken down by their hosts or take other legal action.
Piracy remains a serious problem for all types of media, with occasional victories. On the video side, the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment, an organization associated with the Motion Picture Association recently found success in shutting down the largest video piracy ring in the world (see “Biggest Pirate Network Shut Down”).
