Wizards of the Coast announced its 2025 Dungeons & Dragons releases via a D&D Direct video presentation.
WotC had previously mapped out their release schedule into early 2025 (see “Dates“), and had gone into depth about the books, up to their 2024 Monster’s Manual release, at their Gen Con event (see “2024 Player’s Handbook“). On August 27, 2024, the WotC team shared a sneak peek at more of their 2025 releases, starting with two working titled releases: Dragon Anthology and Updated Starter Set.
The Dragon Anthology book offers players more details about dragons, and 10 short adventures that all feature dragons in dungeons. It will hit in summer 2025. The Updated Starter Set is exactly what it sound like, a re-designed starter set that is aimed at introducing players to D&D. This set also comes with the new “Keep on the Borderlands” adventure. The starter set will release in fall 2025.
Then, WotC designers announced that they are returning to Forgotten Realms in 2025, classic D&D setting. In late 2025, they will release a Forgotten Realms Player Guide and a Forgotten Realms Adventure Guide. The player-focused book will allow players to create new characters for different Realms, in conjunction with the 2024 Player’s Handbook, and add Forgotten Realms setting specific elements to them, like factions, new subclasses, feats, spells and more.
The Forgotten Realms Adventure Guide dives into different parts of the realms, allowing DMs more options to tailor different Realms to their campaign needs. The book features information about Baldur’s Gate, Icewindale, and isolated towns based on classic fantasy settings.
