Hasbro announced two Black Series exclusives from The Mandalorian yesterday and I kinda felt like I needed to turn in my nerd card because I really wasn’t sure what they were from. The press release said they were inspired by Seaon 3 of The Mandalorian and I watched all of that show, but I honestly couldn’t remember these particular Mandos at all and had to pull up Disney+ for some research.
I figured they might be from the Covert on that Grand Canyon planet with all the monsters and so I pulled up The Foundling episode and saw them pretty quickly training Mando in the opening segment and the Armorer even name-checks them, which I totally missed the first time around. They also go on the adventure with Mando, Bo, and Paz to rescue the Mando kid that was taken by the monster-bird to feed her baby monster-birds.
The Mandalorian Shriek-hawk Trainers two-pack are Walmart exclusives that will retail for $44.99 and hit in the fall. They did not announce a pre-order date yet. My initial reaction to these two was that I was glad to see a non Bo-Katan colored Mando, but these are also very dominated by the color blue. Now that I think about it, it kind of makes sense since the Shriek-hawk is the symbol of Clan Visla (it’s that symbol on their arm) and later Death Watch and blue was a big part of their color scheme. There’s a lot of parts re-use here, but enough new stuff to differentiate them a bit from previous releases.
The Mandalorian Shriek-hawk, which is oddly blue for a Target exclusive figure, will retail for $24.99 and arrive in the fall. I think personally I would have preferred soft good for his little skirt deals, but I like the combo of parts here. I do feel like all of these guys are a little clean and could use some grime added, but other than that these feel like a nice bit of re-use that has enough new parts to make them interesting to me. There’s no pre-order date as of yet, so we’ll be on the (death)watch.
