The demo version of the virtual tabletop RPG, Tales of Fablecraft, has been released on Steam today. Developed by Riftweaver, the game is set in the vibrant and hopeful world of Mythas and emphasizes a human-only development approach, avoiding the use of AI-generated content.
Tales of Fablecraft offers a cooperative gaming experience that merges traditional tabletop RPG elements with modern digital tools. It features integrated video chat, interactive battlemaps, and digital tools that are designed to be accessible for both experienced RPG players and those new to this genre.
The game includes a Game Master Guide that simplifies session management with easy-to-follow instructions and drag-and-drop game elements. This guide is aimed at helping game masters run sessions smoothly, regardless of their level of preparation.
Players can choose from seven character classes and three combat styles, with a streamlined system that replaces complex skill checks with simple dice rolls. This system is intended to keep the gameplay straightforward and engaging.
The demo currently includes a single-player tutorial, a detailed character creator, and the first three sessions of the “Road to the Starfall Festival” adventure. An update is expected soon that will add a new tactical combat mode, allowing players to engage in strategic battles and choose skills to customize their character’s abilities.
David Hohusen, co-founder and studio head of Riftweaver, commented on the release, expressing satisfaction with the initial launch and anticipation for player feedback as the game moves towards its full release scheduled for this summer.
Tales of Fablecraft will enter Early Access on Steam this summer and will be available for free, with additional premium content planned for future release. The game is also expected to be available on Android and iOS tablets later this year, with a mobile version following in 2025.
