Cobra Commander has found a new ally—willing or not—that may just make him unstoppable. Unless, of course, someone is one step ahead of him… Cobra Commander #4 is another fantastic issue of a series that feels like it gets better with each issue.
Joshua Williamson has been knocking it out of the park when it comes to his “pre-G.I.JOE/pre-Cobra” series. Each stand on their own but when read together a bigger world is revealed. Cobra Commander has stumbled upon the Dreadnoks who themselves have stumbled upon Energon. A lot is revealed here as the picture comes in to focus as Cobra Commander discovers some key things and we see the pieces of Cobra form.
But, it’s the betrayals and twists and turns as well as what’s hinted at that really stand out in this issue. We get hints as to Cobra Commander’s background as he deals with Nemesis Enforcer. Statements are made which teases his origin which isn’t quite what’s expected since this series’ debut. Add in a finale which puts the future into focus, you have an entry that’ll make G.I. Joe fans excited for what’s to come.
Andrea Milana‘s art stands out even more than usual. With color by Annalisa Leoni and lettering by Rus Wooton, there’s some amazing visual moments. The series has done a great mix of showing off the organic world of Cobra-La, the dirty world of the Dreadnoks, and now the world of Transformers. It all blends together so well and nothing feels out of place. Even with advanced technology revealed in Cobra Commander #4, it all works well in one world where nothing feels out of place. The art captures the tone of the comic so well. The visuals pop mixing action and humor and again, there’s just some awesome “holy shit” moments.
Cobra Commander #4 is a solid issue that continues to connect the dots and converge the series with Duke. It’s one that’s full of action and surprises and shows off everything the series delivers with each issue and then some. One not to be missed.
