Mana Project Studio has initiated a Kickstarter campaign for Elder Mythos, a tabletop role-playing game rooted in cosmic horror, where players take on the roles of Lovecraftian Entities with the aim of either dominating or annihilating the world. The campaign has successfully surpassed its funding goal, raising $71,392 of the initial $10,833 target, with 908 backers and 16 days remaining until its conclusion on April 24.
In Elder Mythos, participants are invited to explore a world beyond the familiar, embodying ancient entities from Lovecraftian lore such as Hastur The Unspeakable One and Cthulhu The Great Dreamer. The game presents a roster of 12 entities, each with distinct attributes and powers, for players to choose from. These entities pursue their enigmatic objectives, leveraging adepts of ancient cults and nightmarish creatures as they navigate through scenarios of cosmic horror.
The gameplay is noted for its emergent nature and intuitive design, enabled by a modified Year Zero System that accommodates the themes of cosmic horror without requiring extensive preparation on the part of the game master. Success in the game is determined by building a pool of D6 dice, aiming to roll at least a 6 for success, though rolling higher than 6 introduces the possibility of catastrophic success, adding unexpected twists to the narrative.
Elder Mythos encourages both conflict and cooperation among players as they steer their entities towards their grand designs, with the possibility of interference from other entities or the game master, who can introduce challenges through human organizations or occult detectives.
