For this edition of FanArt Friday, Pokémon Blog is excited to feature the art of the fabulous Arkevp. This gifted artist participated in the incredible project of Ilustradoras Unidas titled Pokedex Ilustrada.
Arkevp considers art a tool that helps us express our thoughts and ideas, “something unique that characterizes each person” since no one can create the same piece twice.
“I must say that art is an escape from reality for me, a way to see the world from another point of view, and maybe, even temporarily, to escape from reality.”
Our featured artist also told Pokémon Blog that she collaborated on a fanzine called “Está bien estar mal” (“It’s okay to feel bad”), in which she explains in a lengthy way why art is her safe space.
“I never really stopped to think about my relationship with the Pokémon franchise, but it has always had a special place in my heart,” she revealed. “I’ve loved the franchise since I was a child, and I’ve played the majority of the titles, even some fan games that try to explore more of the Pokémon World with another vision.”
“I have always been passionate about art in general, in all its forms and variants, but being able to create pieces centered on my favorite series or games is something unique and wonderful that I wouldn’t trade for anything. After all, I’m the only one who can recreate that image in my head and capture it as I want. I would recommend to people that if they are truly good at something, they should do it. It can be drawing, making videos, or commenting about their passion on social media. Just express it in some way. It doesn’t have to be a masterpiece, but you will never know who you will influence with your work. Maybe someone sees it and discovers a new world or meaning through your work. For me, that’s the most beautiful thing: to have the ability to transmit what I feel or share what I like with my audience.”
Arkevp has had different favorite Pokémon throughout the years: “If you had asked me four years ago, I would have answered Absol without hesitation or even Grovyle. But thanks to a friend who decided to explore the lore of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon on his own and create stuff according to it, I have fallen in love with Snivy since it was my character in a Pokémon role-playing game.”
