WotC’s Next Evolution of ‘Magic’ Conventions are a Game Changer for Organized Play
ICv2 visited MagicCon Chicago on February 23, 2024 at McCormick Place Lakeside Center, 2301 S Martin Luther King Dr. in Chicago, Illinois.
This event was announced as part of the MagicCon 2024 schedule (see “MagicCon Schedule 2024 Unveiled“). The event hosted Pro Tour Murders at Karlov Manor as well as multiple side events for Magic fans of all levels of competitive and casual play. The event also had multiple panels for guests to attend, including the Preview Panel (see “Preview Panel: ‘Outlaws of Thunder Junction’“), as well as an exhibit hall and other attractions like an Artist Alley.
Prior to the convention, the convention had sold out of all adult badges. The single day badges were $40 per day and weekend badges were $100. Premium badges were $165 for the weekend, and Legendary VIP badges were $400 for the weekend. This event was more than likely a game changer for WotC as the sold out attendance showed off the attendance-draw power of Magic: The Gathering organized play, at a properly supported venue in a major city, as well as the amount of potential revenue these events could generate.
