For this edition of FanArt Friday, Pokémon Blog is excited to feature the illustrations of the talented Chilean artist Shimay Shade, also known as shadepiplup10.
Art means a lot in the life of our featured artist:
“I started to draw things when I was 5. And, like many other artists, I draw the things I saw on TV shows, like Pokémon, My Little Pony, etc. At the same time, I have always liked to be in my own world between my drawings and me, because in that place you can do everything that you can imagine from your mind to the paper or screen. It’s your own place.”
As mentioned above, ShimayShade has known Pokémon since she was a child.
“This show has kept me company many afternoons after class. I was always interested in this whole new universe where you can have a little friend in your pocket. And, for the same reason, I have always been following this franchise, watching the anime, buying some cards, games, and collectibles, and the stuff that I really like, like plushies, for example,” she explained.
For Shimay, the beginning of her journey as an artist was quite challenging, especially finding her own style and something cool to draw. But after years of practicing and trying different stuff, she decided to become a Pokémon artist.
“It’s not easy (being a Pokémon artist) because you have to learn so many things to understand how the anatomy of the Pokémon works, but when you get used to it, it’s really amazing (to see) all the things that you can create. Your imagination is the best tool in this world,” our featured artist said to the Pokémon Blog Team.
Shimay revealed that she has a long list of favorite Pokémon and cannot pick only one because she simply adores them all. Still, she has four Pokémon that are the closest to her heart: Garchomp, Latias, Gardevoir, and Piplup.
Garchomp: “I really LOVE this dragon boy. His design is so cool. The growl in the anime and games is just epic for me.”
Latias: “I saw the Pokémon Heroes movie when I was 6, and I fell in love with her design.”
Gardevoir: “I love her elegance, gracefulness, and beauty, and the LORE.”
Piplup: “Because he is just a silly little guy that I love since I was 10 or 11, if I remember correctly.”
