Shang-Chi Repeats at the Weekend Box Office Beating Dear Evan Hansen

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

It’s four weekends in a row for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. The film earned an estimated $13.3 million to bring its domestic total to $196.5 million. That makes the film the top grossing domestic film of the year passing Black Widow‘s $183.6 million. Over the week the film grossed about $23.2 million at the international box office. That total now stands at $166.9 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $363.4 million, about $15 million behind Black Widow which sits in fifth place.

Dear Evan Hansen debuted in second place earning $7.5 million. No international box office has been reported.

Free Guy slipped on spot the third place earning $4.1 million. The film has been a surprise hit earning $114.1 million domestically. The film grossed about $13.6 million over the week at the international box office where it has now earned $203.3 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $317.4 million.

Candyman came in fourth place earning an estimated $2.5 million. The film has grossed $56.8 million domestically. It also added about $1.3 million to its international total which stands at $14.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $71.6 million.

Rounding out the top five was Cry Macho which dropped two spots from last week. The film grossed an estimated $2.1 million to bring its domestic total to $8.3 million. The film earned about $412,000 internationally to bring that total to $762,000. Worldwide, the film has grossed $9.1 million.

In comic films…

Black Widow came in at #14 with an estimated $115,000. Domestically, the film has grossed $183.6 million. The international total has moved adding about $350,00 million over the week where it now stands at $194.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $378.4 million.

Old was #15 with an estimated $105,000. Domestically, the film has grossed just under $48.1 million. Internationally, the film added about $470,000 to its total over the week to bring that to $41.9 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little over $90 million.

The Suicide Squad didn’t show up on the weekend chart but the film looks like it made about $200,000 over the week. Domestically, the film has grossed $55.6 million. The film added about $900,000 to its international gross bringing that to $110.9 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $166.5 million.

Initial numbers have 22 films earning $37,642,599 from 33,155 theaters. That’s around $10 million less than last weekend’s 52 films which earned $47,691,306 from 33,155 theaters. The average earning was $1,198.31 this past weekend, a drip from the previous weekend’s $1,438.44.
