‘El Grande’ Returns to the Tabletop

Hans im Gluck will release a new edition of El Grande, a classic board game, into U.S. retail via Asmodee on January 12, 2024.

El Grande, designed by Wolfgang Kramer and Richard Ulrich, was first published in 1995 and won the Spiel des Jahres in 1996. The game is set in 15th-century Spain, where players assume the roles of Grandes. Their goal is simply to gain the title of El Grande by conquering 9 regions with their caballeros. They will draft different caballeros into their court, move them through different provinces, and play Power cards to help shift the tide in their favor. Scoring occurs every third round, and after the ninth round, the player with the most points wins.

The new edition features upgraded components as well as two mini expansions not included in the original game. This game is for two to five players, ages 12 and up, and plays in 90 minutes. It will retail for $44.99.

Asmodee will also release Coffee Rush, a new game from Korea Board Games (see “‘Coffee Rush’“).
