In January 2024, Black Panel Press will publish Conquest: Julius Caesar’s Gallic War, by Tarek Ben Yakhlef and Vincent Pompetti. The book is a graphic adaptation of Caesar’s first-person account, Commentaries on the Gallic War, with all the art hand-painted in watercolors. The 136-page hardcover, rated for ages 13 and up, will be published by Black Panel Press on January 16, 2024, with an MSRP of $29.99.
The story begins with the request of the Helvetii for safe passage through Roman territory in 58 BCE. Instead, Caesar blocks them, starting a conflict that would lead to the six-year Gallic War, his last big campaign before the Roman Civil War.
Black Panel Press is a small comics publisher, founded in 2017, that focuses on publishing high-quality indie graphic novels from around the world (see “New Publisher Signs Exclusive Contract with Diamond”).
