Hasbro: G.I. Joe Classified Series Retro Crimson Guard

Mmmm…card art.

I have four of the regular release Crimson Guards, and I’ve reviewed them previously here, so I’m not going to go into a full review this time around. This is pretty much just a comparison between the regular release Crimson Guard, and the new retro-card version.

The figure itself is fully the same, from construction to accessories. The only thing that has changed is the colors.

The figure itself is a brighter red then the previous figure. I don’t think I have a preference either way. I liked the darker, I like the brighter. I only plan on getting one of these retro CGs, so I think this brighter one is going to be the officer.

The backpack is a toy accurate red in place of the regular releases black.

The only other major difference between the two is the faceplate on his helmet. Where the regular release was black, accurate to the vintage toy, this time around it’s silver, which is accurate to the original card art.

In case anyone was unaware, I do enjoy a good GI Joe card art reference.

The silver face plate is the main thing that makes me want this one as the leader. Since I can’t just army build everything (I can’t, I can’t, I can’t…if I keep saying that I might believe myself) then it makes sense to have this slightly different version as the field commander.

The others would probably approve. The silver makes a pretty good target.
