Upper Deck showcased three major releases at their Gen Con 2023 booth.
The Vs. System 2PCG: The Boys game was announced at Gen Con 2022 (see “Upper Deck“). At Gen Con 2023, Upper Deck had actual decks and cards on display at the booth as well as a booth theme revolving around Voight International. The Vs. System 2PCG: AEW game was first announced back in May (see “AEW for ‘Vs. System’“). In the game, players assume control of a wrestler and follow an AEW script in an attempt to knockout an opponent. The AEW game was selling through at their booth fast, and stocks of the game were light by Friday morning.
Legendary Marvel Studios: What If…? was recently unveiled in July 2023 (see ” Core Set“). The Upper Deck booth had a prototype game on display, which will be coming out end of 2023 or early 2024. Dylan Davidson, Upper Deck’s Marketing Manager, explained a little about the game:
“With What If…?, we’ve taken the same Legendary format that everyone’s used to, but given it that animated twist,” said Davidson. “It ‘s going to be a full core set, it’s going to have everything you need to play Legendary. It’s going to have all the starters.”
Zack Stevens, Product Development Coordinator for Tabletop Games. added:
“This is one of our core Legendary sets, which means that you can just buy just this box, and you’ll have everything you need to play a full game of Legendary,” said Stevens. “Then it’s compatible with any of the other core sets or any of the other expansion sets. If you’ve already got Legendary cards at home, you can still pick this set up. It’ll mix in really nicely with the rest of your setup.”
