Take a few snapshots during Poliwag Pokémon GO Community Day for a surprise

Niantic has announced new events for Pokémon GO. Read on below to learn more:

Get out and celebrate Poliwag and its Evolutions this Community Day with event bonuses, special research, and more.

The Tadpole Pokémon, Poliwag, is slipping and swirling its way through Pokémon GO’s July 2023 Community Day on July 30, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. During that time, this Water-type Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild, and Trainers might even encounter a Shiny Poliwag—if they’re lucky!

If you evolve Poliwhirl during the event or up to five hours afterward, you’ll get a Poliwrath that knows the Fighting-type Fast Attack Counter, an attack that Poliwrath was previously unable to learn. With Counter, Poliwrath can more easily take on a variety of Pokémon popular in the GO Battle League that are weak to Fighting-type attacks, like Lickitung and Registeel!

Enjoy these special event bonuses from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time.

  • 1/4 Egg Hatch Distance when Eggs are placed in an Incubator during the event.
  • 2× Candy for catching Pokémon.
  • 2× chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL from catching Pokémon.
  • Lure Modules activated during the event will last for three hours.
  • Incense (excluding Daily Adventure Incense) activated during the event will last for three hours.
  • Take a few snapshots during Community Day for a surprise!

Plus, the following bonuses will stay in effect from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time!

  • Enjoy one additional Special Trade for a maximum of three for the day.
  • Trades will require 50% less Stardust.

You can also evolve Poliwhirl during this event or up to five hours afterward to get a Politoed that knows the Ice-type Charged Attack Ice Beam, a new addition to Politoed’s arsenal. Evolving Poliwhirl into Politoed requires a King’s Rock, an item all Trainers can acquire by completing Timed Research available during the event from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time.

A Community Day Special Research Story, Slippery Swirls, will also be available through the end of the event for US$1.00 (or the equivalent pricing in your local currency). And don’t forget that Trainers can purchase tickets for friends that they’ve reached a friendship level of Great Friends or higher with. To give the gift of research, simply tap the “Gift” button instead of the “Buy” button.

Make the most of the Community Day fun with four-star Raid Battles featuring Poliwhirl from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m local time. After a successful raid, more Poliwag will appear in the area for 30 minutes. These four-star raids can only be joined in person using Raid Passes and Premium Battle Passes.

Stay bubbly, Trainers!
