Inkay will evolve into Malamar only under unique circumstances in Pokémon GO

Niantic has announced a new event for Pokémon GO. Read on below to learn more:

Inkay and Malamar Debut in Pokémon GO’s Psychic Spectacular

Add new entries to your Pokédex, catch countless Psychic-type Pokémon, and complete Special Research during this five-day event.

Tap into strange and powerful energies with Pokémon GO’s Psychic Spectacular running through September 13, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. local time. The event puts Psychic-type Pokémon in the supernatural spotlight as they appear more frequently in the wild and in raids. The Psychic Spectacular also introduces two new Pokémon to Pokémon GO: Inkay and Malamar!

The Dark- and Psychic-type Inkay—originally discovered in Kalos and known for dazing its opponents—is dipping its tentacles into Pokémon GO for the first time. And the introduction of Inkay’s evolved form Malamar—known for possessing the strongest hypnotic powers of any Pokémon—makes a compelling case for participating in the Psychic Spectacular. Just don’t flip out if it takes a few mental revolutions to figure out how to evolve Inkay into Malamar!

Psychic-type Pokémon parading through the wild with varying degrees of frequency throughout the event will include Abra, Slowpoke, Drowzee, Wobbuffet, Ralts, Baltoy, Woobat, Gothita, Solosis, Elgyem, and Inkay. Raid often and raid smart to catch the following Pokémon during the Psychic Spectacular:

  • One-star raids: Staryu, Chimecho, Bronzor, Espurr, and Inkay
  • Three-star raids: Alolan Raichu, Wobbuffet, Medicham, and Metagross
  • Five-star raids: Lugia
  • Mega raids: Mega Slowbro

Finish fabulous Field Research tasks to earn rewards, including potential encounters with Woobat, Inkay, and more. Spin PokéStops, open Gifts from friends, and visit the in-game shop to collect stunning stickers inspired by Psychic-type Pokémon. And remember to take GO Snapshots throughout the event for special surprises.

Stay psyched, Trainers!
