Pokemon to Ignite ‘Obsidian Flames’

The Pokemon Company International has announced the upcoming Pokemon Trading Card Game:  Scarlet & Violet–Obsidian Flames expansion set, which will release worldwide on August 11.

Obsidian Flames introduces a new category of Pokemon to the game:  type-shifted Tera Pokemon ex.  These cards feature familiar characters like Charizard ex and Tyranitar ex with altered Energy types.  While these Pokemon attack using their traditional Energy, they have a changed Weakness based on the altered Energy.

The Obsidian Flames card set will feature 15 Pokemon ex and 6 Tera Pokemon ex cards.  It will have 12 illustration rare, 6 special illustration rare, 12 ultra rare full-art etched, and 3 hyper rare gold etched cards.  It will be available in booster packs with 10 cards and 1 Basic Energy, sold in 36-pack displays with an MSRP of $161.64.  A 6-pack Booster Bundle, MSRP $26.94, and Sleeved Booster Packs, MSRP $4.49, will also be available.

Obsidian Flames follows the July launch of the Annihilape ex Box (see “The Pokemon Company International Unleashes ‘Annihilape Ex Box’”) and the early August release of the Collector Chest (see “School Year Closes Out; Back to School ‘Pokemon TCG’ Preorders Open Up”).

Pokemon TCG Live is poised to leave the beta phase and have a full launch next month (see “‘Pokemon TCG Live’ Exits Global Beta”).
