Writer and artist Koren Shadmi’s newest graphic novel will explore the history of the iconic group Velvet Underground, the avant-garde band that got a big boost from artist Andy Warhol and became an integral part of the New York arts scene in the 1960s. The band, which included prominent musicians Lou Reed and John Cale, gained a cult following, but Warhol’s patronage was a mixed blessing. Shadmi tells the story of that strained relationship in All Tomorrow’s Parties: The Velvet Underground Story, which will be published by Humanoids as a 180-page hardcover with an MSRP of $29.99. The original graphic novel will be released to bookstores on August 22, 2023, and to comic shops on August 23.
Shadmi’s Lugosi: The Rise and Fall of Hollywood’s Dracula was nominated for a 2022 Eisner Award. He is also the creator of Love Addict: Confessions of a Serial Dater and Rise of the Dungeon Master – Gary Gygax and the Creation of D&D (see “New Graphic Biography of ‘D&D’ Creator Gary Gygax”).
