The highly anticipated Rivers of London: the Roleplaying Game has been released in hardcover, allowing fans to dive deeper into the magical world of London created by author Ben Aaronovitch.
In the game, players take on the roles of newly recruited members of the London Metropolitan Police Service’s special magic branch, known as “the Folly,” where they solve mysteries, catch criminals and interact with the “demi-monde,” those who have been changed by magic.
The core book includes all the rules needed for fully-fledged Rivers of London campaigns, including character creation and advancement, advice for Game Moderators, and extensive setting information and history. The Newtonian magic system, a defining feature of the series, is fully explained, and a full list of spells from the novels is included.
The release of the game in hardcover has been met with excitement by fans and gamers alike. The British Fantasy Society called it “a fantastic gateway into tabletop role-playing games,” while RPGNet said it was “a superb realization of a much-loved series, dripping with character while offering fast and streamlined mechanics.”
For those new to the world of Rivers of London, the game includes a solo adventure based on the short story “The Domestic,” as well as a standalone adventure called “The Bookshop,” designed for first-time players.
The hardback version is priced at USD$59.99 and includes a PDF, while a special leatherette version is available for USD$99.00. Due to shipping delays, the game is not currently available in Australia but is expected to be in stock early next week.
