Warhammer: The Old World Development Diary Reveals Exciting News for Bretonnian Armies and Addresses Square Bases and Sizing

The Old World Development Diary has released a new article this month, revealing exciting news for fans of Warhammer’s Bretonnian army. Along with the return of some much-loved Citadel miniatures, the studio has created an entirely new army for Duke Gastille, the Red Hand of Brionne. The army has been painted with the heraldry of the Dukedom of Brionne, featuring a white battle axe on a quartered field of red and black.

The designers also answered questions about square bases and sizing. The majority of models in Warhammer: The Old World will sit on larger bases, with 25mm bases replacing most 20mm bases and 25x50mm bases. This change has come about because many units have become difficult to rank up, and the new larger bases will allow for more dynamically posed models while maintaining the same proportions.

Fans are reassured that they will not need to rebase their old armies for casual play, but organised play events may require armies to be based appropriately for the new game. All models in the Warhammer: The Old World range will be supplied with the correctly sized bases, and bases and movement trays will also be available for purchase.

The article offers hobbyists the chance to paint a Bretonnian army in a uniform scheme, while maintaining the idea that every model can be unique if desired. The designers explain that in the past, each knight would have worn different heraldry, but in this era of the Old World, knights are part of a regional army, and the whole army’s heraldry reflects their general’s personal heraldry in some way.

Overall, fans of Warhammer: The Old World have much to look forward to, with the return of Bretonnian armies and exciting changes to square bases and sizing. Further news is expected to be revealed at Warhammer Fest, kicking off on April 29th.
