Landorus is a Ground- and Flying-type Legendary Pokémon originally discovered in the Unova region. Lands visited by Landorus enjoy bountiful crops, earning Landorus the title of The Guardian of the Fields. Landorus has two formes: Incarnate Forme and Therian Forme. They share the same type, so tips on how to battle them will work for both formes. Learn which Pokémon will be most effective in Raid Battles against Landorus, how to catch Landorus after winning a Raid Battle, and how best to use the Abundance Pokémon after you’ve caught it.

As a Ground- and Flying-type Pokémon, Landorus is vulnerable to Water-type and Ice-type attacks. When selecting Pokémon for your Raid Battle lineup, it helps to choose Pokémon that have a Fast Attack and a Charged Attack of one of these types if you want to deal as much damage as possible. It’s not necessary to choose only Water-type or Ice-type Pokémon, but a Pokémon that shares a type with these attacks will benefit from a same-type attack bonus, which will allow these attacks to deal an additional 20% damage. Landorus is particularly vulnerable to Ice-type attacks, so facing it with a team comprised exclusively of Ice-type Pokémon is an excellent choice.

If you have multiple Pokémon that know Water- or Ice-type attacks, choose the Pokémon with the highest CP and best overall stats. Remember that speed of victory affects how many Premier Balls you will receive at the conclusion of a successful Raid Battle, so bring your strongest Pokémon and defeat Landorus as quickly as you can.

After a successful Landorus raid, you’ll have a limited number of Premier Balls you can use to catch Landorus, so make each one count. You can earn extra Premier Balls by battling with friends and defeating Landorus more quickly.

In an encounter with Landorus, your chance of catching it is greatest when the target ring is small enough for you to score Excellent Throws. Throwing Curveballs can improve your chances even more. But work within your abilities—if you don’t think you can reliably make Excellent Curveball Throws, aim for Nice Throws or Great Throws rather than risk missing the target ring completely.

Landorus isn’t going to make it easy on you by sitting still while you’re trying to catch it. Don’t waste your Premier Balls by throwing while it’s moving around. Watch the Pokémon to get a feel for its cycle of movement and the pauses in between the cycles. During one of these pauses, wait for the target ring to reappear, and then throw as it starts to grow smaller to increase your odds of making a Great Throw or an Excellent Throw.

Berries can help you catch Landorus. A Razz Berry will make Landorus easier to catch, and a Golden Razz Berry will make it much easier to catch. If you find yourself failing to land any throws, a Nanab Berry will calm Landorus, making its movements less erratic and allowing you to make precise throws more easily. If you need extra Landorus Candy, using a Silver Pinap Berry will make Landorus easier to catch and grant you extra Candy when you catch it.

Buddy Pokémon with a Buddy Level of Great Buddy or higher have the Catch Assist Perk. If a Pokémon—even a Legendary Pokémon—deflects a Poké Ball, your buddy might bounce it back for a second catch opportunity!

Like all Legendary Pokémon, Landorus is tricky to catch, so don’t be discouraged if it escapes. Get a second wind by stocking up on useful items—like Max Potions, Max Revives, and Golden Razz Berries—and try again.

Incarnate Forme Landorus’s Initial CP Range: 1,965–2,050

Incarnate Forme Landorus’s Initial CP Range with Weather Boost: 2,456–2,563

Available Fast Attacks: Mud Shot (Ground), Rock Throw (Rock)

Available Charged Attacks: Earth Power (Ground), Focus Blast (Fighting), Outrage (Dragon), Rock Slide (Rock)

As a Ground- and Flying-type Pokémon, Landorus is resistant to Electric-, Fighting-, Poison-, Ground-, and Bug-type attacks. While Incarnate Forme Landorus is not considered one of the most competitive Pokémon in the GO Battle League, it does have some advantages that can make it an asset in the Master League. It boasts an impressively high maximum CP and can learn the Fast Attack Mud Shot, which benefits from a same-type attack bonus and generates a great deal of energy per second. In terms of Charged Attacks, Rock Slide is highly energy efficient and offers a wide range of coverage. Focus Blast and Earth Power are both solid choices against Steel-type Pokémon, and Outrage is a strong counter to the Master League’s many Dragon-type Pokémon.

In addition to being modestly effective in the GO Battle League’s Master League, Incarnate Forme Landorus is an excellent choice against Steel-type Raid Bosses such as Mega Steelix, Metagross, Dialga, and Heatran, all of which are vulnerable to Landorus’s Ground-type attacks. As mentioned earlier, Mud Shot provides excellent energy generation, allowing Landorus to deliver an impressive number of Charged Attacks during a raid.

To make the most of Incarnate Forme Landorus’s potential both in raids and the GO Battle League, you’ll want to teach it a second Charged Attack. In the GO Battle League, you should choose your two Charged Attacks based on the role you want Landorus to fill on your team. Each of its Charged Attacks is powerful and useful, but which you choose will depend on whether the other Pokémon on your team have certain attack types available. Teaching Landorus a second Charged Attack and raising its CP to its maximum requires a lot of Landorus Candy and Stardust, so try to catch as many Landorus as you can. If you use a Star Piece, you will receive extra Stardust after you catch a Pokémon.

Therian Forme Landorus’s Initial CP Range: 2,151–2,241

Therian Forme Landorus’s Initial CP Range with Weather Boost: 2,688–2,801

Available Fast Attacks: Extrasensory (Psychic), Mud Shot (Ground)

Available Charged Attacks: Bulldoze (Ground), Earthquake (Ground), Stone Edge (Rock), Superpower (Fighting)

Much of the strategy for Incarnate Forme Landorus is applicable to Therian Forme Landorus as well. Since both are Ground- and Flying-type Pokémon, Therian Forme Landorus is also resistant to Electric-, Fighting-, Poison-, Ground-, and Bug-type attacks. Therian Forme Landorus is an excellent counter to the many prominent Steel-type Pokémon in the Master League. It boasts an impressively high maximum CP and can learn the Fast Attack Mud Shot, which benefits from a same-type attack bonus and generates an extreme amount of energy per second. Both of these factors make Landorus a GO Battle League asset.

In addition to being effective in the GO Battle League, Therian Forme Landorus is an excellent choice against Steel-type Raid Bosses such as Mega Steelix, Metagross, Dialga, and Heatran, all of which are vulnerable to Landorus’s Ground-type attacks.

To make the most of Landorus’s potential, you’ll want to teach it a second Charged Attack. A Ground-type Charged Attack is highly recommended—Earthquake is an almost guaranteed knockout against a Pokémon without any Protect Shields. A second Charged Attack with a different type can increase Therian Forme Landorus’s effectiveness against an even broader range of opponents. Teaching Landorus a second Charged Attack and raising its CP to its maximum requires a lot of Landorus Candy and Stardust, so try to catch as many Landorus as you can. If you use a Star Piece, you will receive extra Stardust after you catch a Pokémon—so try using one before a raid!
