New from AWA in June: Sins of the Salton Sea, a dark thriller by writer Ed Brisson and artist C.P. Smith. The five-issue miniseries starts with Wyatt, a thief looking for one last score, pulling off an armored-car heist only to find human cargo instead of money. That catapults him into the middle of a war between factions of a doomsday cult determined to save the world through human sacrifice. The first issue will be released on June 7, 2023, with a main cover by Tim Bradstreet.
“Ed is an extraordinary talent playing to his strengths, and he’s perfectly paired with C.P. Smith, whose neo-noir style brilliantly captures the tension and atmosphere of Ed’s scripts,” said AWA Co-Founder and CCO Axel Alonso in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Sins of the Salton Sea takes a familiar trope – a criminal looking to make one last score – and completely turns it on its head. Part conspiracy thriller, part chase movie, part cult-based horror, with plenty of twists and turns to keep readers wondering, Is Wyatt doing the right thing…?”
Brisson was recently announced as one of the writers of the new Batman: The Brave and the Bold anthology (see “All New ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’ to Debut in May”), working with artist Jeff Spokes on a story featuring the new StormWatch team. Smith’s previous work includes Wolverine: Blood and Sorrow and The Resistance Universe: Origins.
