Wizards of the Coast previewed cards from The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth, a new Magic: The Gathering Universes Beyond set. This set will hit stores June 23, 2023.
WotC dropped images of some seriously collectible LotR Magic cards to be included in this new set (see “‘The Lord of the Rings’ Set“). There were a number of cards with familiar LotR characters on them like Frodo, Sauron’s Bane; Samwise the Stouthearted, and Gollum, Patient Plotter. However, the most significant reveal was a The One Ring foil card printed in the Black Speech of Sauron using Tengwar letters that is serial numbered 001/001 (see gallery below). It joins the 1996 World Champion and Shichifukujin Dragon cards as one of the only single print Magic cards ever to have been made. This unique card can be found in a Collector Booster from diplays or the bundle.
They also made ultra rare serialized versions of Sol Ring as Rings of Power. There are Elven, Dwarven, and a Human versions of these Rings of Power. These cards are only found in Collector Boosters and their total print counts are as follows:
- 300 serialized double rainbow foil Sol Ring (Elven)
- 700 serialized double rainbow foil Sol Ring (Dwarven)
- 900 serialized double rainbow foil Sol Ring (Human)
- 3,000 non-foil Sol Ring (Elven)
- 7,000 non-foil Sol Ring (Dwarven)
- 9,000 non-foil Sol Ring (Human)
