Dark Horse has licenses Shin’ichi Sakamoto’s Innocent, a historical manga about a reluctant executioner in the French Revolution. Charles-Henri Sanson is the son of the Royal Executioner of Paris and is expected to follow in that tradition, but that is not the life he wants. He is determined to be the last executioner in his family. The story is based on an actual historical figure, known as the “Gentleman of Paris,” who performed 3,000 executions. In Japan, the manga was nominated for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize “Reader Award” and the Manga Taishou Award.
Dark Horse will publish the first volume of Innocent as a three-in-one omnibus on November 21, 2023, in bookstores and November 22 in comic shops.
VIZ Media announced at AnimeNYC that it has licensed Sakamoto’s horror series #DRCL midnight children (see “VIZ Fall 2023 Licenses”).
