In the war between comic and MCU Marvel Legends fans, I’m definitely Switzerland, but one thing I do feel strongly about is getting figures of supporting characters. I get that a lot of fans are bored by these “guy in a suit” figures, but when I was a comic reader, they really fleshed out the supporting casts of normal people in great ways, so I’m always on the lookout for a Robbie Robertson or Jarvis. Today we’re looking at a great supporting character from the MCU, Jimmy Woo!
I have to confess that for reviewing purposes, I’m selfishly loving these window free boxes. It’s so much easier to shoot a pic of these if I don’t have to try and avoid reflections. My apologies to the carded collectors. The picture of Jimmy does have a neat video-edit effect which seems appropriate for Wanda Vision.
Jimmy comes with an alternate hand and the Konshu BAF left arm and absolutely MASSIVE staff. The arm and the staff have one paint op a piece for weathering, which seems hardly adequate, but is par for the course. I suppose you could count the removeable badge as an accessory, but I’m a little surprised he doesn’t come with a gun. Not that I see this Jimmy as Mr. Gun, but seems like a natural fit for an FBI character.
The alternate hand is one of the most scene specific accessories I’ve seen outside of the Star Wars brand and it’s meant to show Jimmy using sleight of hand to make his business card appear out of nowhere. It’s actually got a really nicely sculpted hand that matches the way the actor holds the card perfectly and the hand is only used for holding this card. I think it’s all one piece. The card is a bit on the thick side, but that’s understandable and I am impressed that his name is one there legibly.
Sculpting re-uses the standard suit body here with new coat pieces and the coat has a nice weight to it with a realistic rumpled quality. I can totally see Randall Park in the portrait, though it does come across as slightly soft and could some deeper detail in the lines on his face. If I had my way, I would have gone for a different expression, something closer to consternation than what we have here, but again this fits the scene from the show.
Articulation is decent in the typical Legends style with effective:
- Swivel/hinge shoulders, wrists, hips, and ankles
- Swivel biceps, thighs, and waist
- Double hinged knees and elbows
- Hinged neck and mid-torso
- Ball jointed head
The paint is minimal with most of the color in the native plastic, but the zipper and button hits on the jacket are pretty clean and a nice touch of detail. I did notice that the elbow color match is just slightly off from the rest of the arm and I’d say the lips are bit too vibrant for my taste.
While I probably have a bit more connection to comic Jimmy Woo, I do enjoy this character (despite being not much like comic Jimmy at all) in the MCU and the figure is a solid representation of that. I think the FBI jacket he wears for more of the Wanda Vision series could have worked as well, but I like the green jacket as it makes him stand out a bit. I can also see making a great civilian background custom character with this figure.
