The union representing HarperCollins employees says that the publisher plans to hire temporary workers to replace some of the 250 staffers who have been on strike since November 10, 2022 (see “HarperCollins Union Goes on Strike”). The news came in a Tweet from UAW Local 2110, which represents the striking workers, whose contract expired in April 2022. The union encouraged authors to contact HarperCollins to protest the move, and over 500 authors signed an open letter of solidarity with the union.
Graphic novel creators who have signed the letter include Nadia Shammas (co-creator of the Harvey Award winning Squire), Katy Farina (Baby Sitters Little Sister), Binglin Hu (Expedition Backyard), Natalie Reiss (Space Battle Lunchtime), Jonathan Hill (Tales of a Seventh-Grade Lizard Boy), Nicole Goux (Forest Hills Bootleg Society), Niki Smith (The Deep & Dark Blue), and Raoul the Third (Low Riders in Space).
