Dynamite Entertainiment is teaming up with the Frazetta Girls brand and Bakshi Productions to produce comics and tabletop games based on the 1983 film Fire and Ice, which was developed from the art of Frank Frazetta and animated by Ralph Bakshi.
Written by Gerry Conway and Roy Thomas, both veterans of Conan the Barbarian comics, Fire and Ice followed the adventures of Princess Teegra, who was kidnapped by the ice queen, and the barbarian Larn, who helps her after she escapes and follows her through a series of adventures involving a giant squid, a mysterious masked warrior, and a climactic battle that unleashes a volcano against the ice queen’s glacier fortress.
The comic series will be a prequel to the film, picking up on the themes and ideas and perhaps some of the characters as well. While the creative team has yet to be announced, the cover will feature Frazetta’s original painting that was used to develop the visuals for the film and later became the movie poster. The comics will debut in 2023, to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the film’s release.
Dynamite also plans a tabletop RPG that will be based on the film.
