As a kid who grew up in the 1980s, Saturday morning cartoons was an actual thing. We waited all week just to wake up early on Saturday morning. Me and my cousins had our favorites, but as the years went by, the more options became available. We did not know it then, but it became a harbinger for the endless options we have now for streaming services.
What we did enjoy the most is when shows would do crossovers. One of the best crossovers was between He-Man and She-Ra. As it helped that it had the same company behind both shows. As it always gave fans likeme something to look forward to, seeing two stories exist in the same world. In the debut issue of Miles Morales & Moon Girl, we find the two acolytes of the Marvel Universe teaming up for their biggest adventure together.
We are taken to the Lower East Side in New York City, where Moon Girl is stopping another robber, which doesn’t scare until Devil Dinosaur shows up, causing the criminal to run. The next day at school, Lunella finds out that Devil Dinosaur has left her lab and is loose in Brooklyn and all over the news. She eventually finds out where they are keeping Devil and pulls in Miles Morales to help with the rescue mission. As they find out Taskmaster and Stegron have cloned Devil Dinosaur , in hopes of weaponizing him. By issue’s end, they stop Taskmaster, but still haven’t found Devil Dinosaur.
Overall, Miles Morales & Moon Girl #1 is a perfect issue. It shows why Moon girl and Devil Dinosaur shouldn’t be an overlooked and underrated comic. The story by Mashigo is pure joy. The art by the creative team is excellent. Altogether, a story which thrives on its eccentricities.
