It should be no surprise that Jurassic World Dominion was the top film at the weekend box office. The film had a huge debut opening with $143.4 million. At the international box office, the film did even better grossing $245.8 million delivering a worldwide gross of $389.1 million its opening weekend.
The film was the best opening for the latest Jurassic Park trilogy. Jurassic World opened with $208.8 million domestically in 2015 while Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom earned $148 million in 2018. The first went on to earn $1.672 billion while the latter went on to earn $1.310 billion.
Top Gun: Maverick slipped to third place after two weeks in first. It earned an estimated $50 million to bring its domestic total to $393.3 million. Internationally, the film grossed around $96.7 million to lift that to $353.7 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed a little over $747 million.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness inches towards $1 billion after 5 weeks. The film came in third grossing an estimated $4.9 million. Domestically, the film has grossed $397.8 million. Over the week, the film grossed $11.7 million internationally. There it has earned $532.4 million for a worldwide total of $930.2 million.
The Bob’s Burgers Movie dropped one spot to come in fourth. The film grossed $2.3 million to bring its domestic total to $27.1 million. Internationally, the film grossed about $55,000 over the week to bring that to $1.8 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $28.8 million.
The Bad Guys rounded up the top five with $2.2 million to bring its domestic total to $91.5 million. The film earned a little over $600,000 internationally over the week to bring that to $131.6 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $223.1 million.
In comic film news…
Morbius returned to theaters last week adding a little to the total, about $500,000 total. The film’s domestic gross is now at $73.8 million. Internationally, the film remained steady with $90 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $163.8 million (about a trillion Morbinbucks).
The Batman looks like it remained steady domestically having earned $369.3 million. Internationally the film looks like it has ended its run and now stands at $401 million. The film currently stands at $770.3 million.
Initial numbers have 29 films earning $209,630,757 from 24,995 theaters. That’s a bump of about 50% from last weekend’s 54 films which earned $121,645,009 from 30,142 theaters. It’s another strong weekend for 2022. The average earning was $8,386.91 this past weekend, over double the previous weekend’s $4,035.73.
