Sync or Swim, an app-driven cooperative card game inspired by synchronized swimming, will be coming from Bezier Games later this year.
ICv2 spoke with Bezier’s Trade Show Manager Kevin Padula at the recent ACD Games Day about Sync or Swim. In the game, the players try to work together to play matching cards into their tableau, racing against a 25-second time limit. If they succeed, they move on to the next set of cards, ultimately seeking to match five sets of cards to form their synchronized swimming routine.
The action in the game is guided through a companion smartphone app. The app manages the timer, adjusting playing time based on the successes and failures of the group. It can also introduce physical challenges to complicate the players’ efforts, such as requiring players to use only their left hand or pass cards only to the right. The app also awards a score to the players, up to 100 points, based on how well they complete their routine.
Sync or Swim was created by Lucas and Divya Hedgren, and is intended for 3 to 6 players, ages 14 and up. Games take under an hour to play. MSRP is $19.95.
Bezier Games funded the production of Sync or Swim through a Kickstarter campaign in January that attracted $7,746 in pledged support from 359 backers (an average of $21.58 per backer). Fulfillment is scheduled for September, with release into the trade to follow.
In August, the company will launch Cat in the Box: Deluxe Edition (see “Bezier Games Will Release ‘Cat in the Box: Deluxe Edition’”).
