A time of calling cards and ladies leaving a handkerchief for her beloved. Of waistcoats and corsets. Of horse-drawn carriage rides through the countryside. Of estate homes and downtown flats. That’s where you find yourself in Regency, a new RPG all about courtship and intrigue akin to that found in a Jane Austen game. The game is up on Kickstarter now.
From the campaign:
Regency is an effervescent tabletop roleplaying game of high society maneuvering and romance set against an inspired world of classic period tropes and darling adventures. One can almost hear the classical string arrangements of contemporary pop songs playing in the background as the Author (the individual telling the story and running the game) hosts tea for players who take on various roles within their Family and navigate a world of gossip, beauty, affairs of the heart, and duties of their social station.
Regency is inspired by the work of truly classic masters of the genre like Jane Austen (Pride & Prejudice, Emma) and Georgette Heyer (Arabella, The Corinthian), as well as modern influences like the Bridgerton novels by Julia Quinn and Downton Abby by Julian Fellowes. Our world of courtly expectations and the threat of scandal hums and sings along as the players choose their own adventure through gorgeous scene after scene.
The Author directs the narrative through Chapters, in which the players–through their characters–will roll dice to determine the success or failure (often both!) of their plans and schemes and attempt to overcome adversities. As they advance their Family’s interests in Rank, Wealth, and Status they too, hope to advance their own personal goals and individual stories.
The campaign’s up and running now with 34 days left to go.
