As the movie business gears up again, there’s lots of geek showbiz news, which we round up here.
After taking in another $66 million in the U.S. and $66.6 million in international markets over the weekend, box office for The Batman is approaching $500 million worldwide, a mark that only four Hollywood movies have hit in the Covid era, according to Variety. The take to date is $463 million, after a big start last weekend (see “’The Batman’ Tops Friday B.O.“).
Warner Bros. has moved the dates for five upcoming DC movies, primarily due to Covid-related production delays, according to Deadline.
- DC League of Super-Pets from May 20 to July 29
- Black Adam from July 29 to October 21, 2022
- The Flash from November 4, 2022 to June 23, 2023
- Aquaman from December 16, 2022 to March 17, 2023
- Shazam! Fury of the Gods from June 2, 2023 to December 16, 2022
The schedule changes ease up on the 2022 schedule and move a major release to 2023 (see our Geek Movie Calendars for 2022 and 2023).
Deadpool 3 has a director, according to The Hollywood Reporter: Shawn Levy, who’s previously collaborated with Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds on Free Guy and The Adam Project. After a pass at the script by Wendy Molyneiux and Lizzie Molyneiux-Logelin (from Bob’s Burgers, see “’Deadpool 3’ Adds Writers“), Rhett Rees and Paul Wernick, who wrote the first two films, are back on the third installment.
Prime Video has released a teaser for The Boys Season 3 (video below). The first three episodes will drop June 3, with new episodes on Fridays until the finale airs on July 8. All eight shorts from the adult animated anthology series The Boys Presents: Diabolical dropped March 4 (see “Trailer for ‘The Boys Presents’“).
Pramount+ has released a teaser trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (video below), the Star Trek Discovery spinoff series premiering May 5. The series, which focuses on the years when Christopher Pike was Captain of the Enterprise, has already been renewed for a second season (see “’Star Trek’ Renewals“).
Disney+ has released a first trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi, the next Star Wars series (video below), which will premiere May 25 (see “’Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Gets Date“). The series stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christiansen (who will reprise his role as Darth Vader). Source: ICv2
