Hex-n-Screen RPG Settings Up On Kickstarter

January 21, 2022 by Polar_Bear

Hex-n-Screen is an RPG format where tiles are drawn from a bag by the GM and each has new options and challenges for the players when they go onto it. Thus, the game is built and played procedurally. And there’s two settings for it up on Kickstarter now: Undying Sands and Bottled Sea.

From the campaign:

This campaign is for two RPG settings in the Hex-n-Screen format. These are gameable universes compacted into cardboard hexes, a Game Master screen, poster hand-out and cloth bag. The concept behind the format is to design complex and flavorful RPG settings without them being presented as books. In this campaign, we bring to life a new print-run of ENNIE-nominated (Best Setting, Best Cartography) Undying Sands and an entirely new spin-off, the Bottled Sea.

How does the format work?

Put all hexes in the bag, take one out randomly and place it on the table. That’s where the characters start the adventure. Read the respective description from the GM screen and roleplay it out. Ask players where they want to go next and take another hex from the bag. The map of the setting is formed while players explore it.

The campaign’s making its way to 3x funded with 19 days left to go.
