Timothy Zahn is writing an original Star Trek graphic novel for IDW, due out October 2027.

Star Trek: Roc’s Egg will be drawn by Ángel Hernández and is set aboard Deep Space 9.  Hernández has illustrated previous Star Trek comic works, including Star Trek: Deep Space Nine – The Dog of War (see “Corgi on Board“) and Star Trek: Voyager – Homecoming (see “Three ‘Star Trek’ Limited Series“).

Zahn wrote the best-selling Star Wars: Thrawn trilogy, which has been adapted as a manga (see “Random House Worlds to Publish New ‘Thrawn’ Manga“).  The Hugo Award-winning author created the character of Grand Admiral Thrawn in his 1991 novel Heir to the Empire and has been a creative consultant on the Disney+ miniseries Ahsoka. He also co-wrote a comic adaptation, Thrawn: Alliances, from Marvel (see “Star Wars Comics News“).

In Star Trek: Roc’s Egg, a mysterious artifact spawns a mystery featuring a secret auction, various criminals and wealthy collectors, and murder.  Said Heather Antos, Senior Group Editor, about the author, “His incredible gift for intricate plotting, unforgettable characters, and mysteries that keep you guessing makes him the perfect storyteller to take us back to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine—a station where everyone has a secret, everyone has an agenda, and the truth is rarely as simple as it first appears.”

Zahn commented, “My association with Star Trek goes all the way back to 1966 and the original TV series. Now, after sixty years, I’ve been given the chance to add my own small grace note to that rich and vibrant symphony.  This is a huge honor and privilege, and one which I will always cherish.”
