Dynamite Entertainment has announced new release dates for the first issue of its Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Firefly comics.
The first issue of Buffy will be released on March 10, 2027, and the first issue of Angel will be released later that month. Firefly #1 is due out in April 2027.
Dynamite originally solicited Buffy #1, by Absolute Wonder Woman writer Kelly Thompson and artist Stephen Byrne, for July 2026 (see “Dynamite Reveals New ‘Buffy’ Deets“), and from the beginning, the plan was to do a unified first arc with characters from Angel appearing in the Buffy comics and vice versa. Dynamite then announced that Thompson would be writing both series, with Giulia Giacomino doing the art for Angel (see “Kelly Thompson Continues Buffyverse Reboot in ‘Angel’ #1“). That launch was originally scheduled for August 2026.
Firefly, by writer Mark Russell and artist Lorenzo Re, was set to launch in September 2026 (see “‘Firefly’ Comics by Mark Russell“).
Dynamite subsequently announced that the Buffy and Angel series would be delayed due to both creative and publishing factors. The publisher has also increased the page count for these two series: Buffy #1, originally solicited as 32 pages, will have 48 pages, of which 35 will be story. Angel #1 will remain at 48 pages, the original solicit, with 32 pages of story. Both will be priced at $4.99.
